Mr. Warren Lucas “W. L.” Tomlinson, Jr. 79, of Emporia, passed away Saturday, March 23, 2024 at home surrounded by his family. He was the son of the late Warren L. Tomlinson, Sr. and Buelah Lynch Tomlinson and was also preceded in death by his brother, David Marlow Tomlinson; sister, Roberta Diane “Ann” Temple and a special nephew, David Warren Temple.
An avid athlete, W. L. enjoyed playing and coaching baseball, softball and also bowling. He worked very hard in manufacturing, farming and the trucking industry. In his retirement, he was a medical transport driver and served as sexton for Main Street Baptist Church. W.L. attended Word of Life Assembly of God Church and was a member of American Legion Post 46 and Adams Grove Ruritan Club.
W. L. is survived by his wife of 50 years, Louise Simmons Tomlinson; daughter, Stephanie Tomlinson Owens (John); son, Owen L. Tomlinson (Hilary); four grandsons, J. Lucas Owens, Reid Owens, Colton Owens, Cameron Tomlinson and a special niece, Michelle Temple Servey (Terry).
The family will receive friends 6-8 p.m. Monday, March 25 at Owen Funeral Home, 303 S. Halifax Rd, Jarratt, Virginia where the funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday, March 26. Interment with military honors will be at Emporia Cemetery. A reception will follow at Word of Life Assembly of God Church.
The family expresses their heartfelt thanks to Mary Beth Vincent and the staff of Crater Community Hospice as well as Threasa Myers and other providers with Care Advantage Home Health for their support and the healthcare for W. L.
