Virginia Mae Harrell Simmons

Virginia Mae Harrell Simmons, 103, died on Friday, January 12, 2024. She was born on November 14, 1920, to the late Joseph Bryan Harrell and Mattie Rebecca Jarratt; and was also preceded in death by her husband of 69 years, Ernest Edward "Mac" Simmons, a son, Ernest Harrell Simmons; and her brothers, Bryan, Richard, Walter, and Freeman. She is survived by two granddaughters, Kaye Simmons (Eric Remy) of Gettysburg, Pa; Beth Simmons of Chesapeake, Va; one grandson, Colonel Crayton (Theresa) Simmons of North Carolina; two great-grandsons, Adam Remy and Ian Remy, a brother, Dudley J. Harrell, sister Melissa Ann Jackson, and a number of nieces and nephews. Mrs. Simmons was an active member of Lebanon United Methodist Church, where she taught Sunday school for 70 years and sang in the choir. She will be missed by her family, friends, community and church. The family will receive friends from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. with funeral service to follow immediately at 2 p.m. at the Owen Funeral Home, 303 S. Halifax Rd. in Jarratt on Saturday, January 27, 2024. Interment will follow at Greensville Memorial Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Lebanon United Methodist Church, c/o Treasurer, 25123 Blue Star Hwy, Jarratt, Va. 23867.
