Thomas Wesley Parson IV of Jarratt, Virginia, died on September 29, 2023, under hospice care. Born in Petersburg, Virginia, on August 17, 1953, Tommy was a lifelong resident of Jarratt. He was in the Class of 1971 at Brunswick Academy, Class of 1973 at Louisburg College where he later served on the Board of Trustees, and graduated from the University of Richmond in 1975. He had a keen interest in history, genealogy, and antiques. He worked for several decades in quality control at Georgia Pacific in Jarratt. A lifelong member of Centenary United Methodist Church in Jarratt, Tommy served on its Administrative Board. Tommy was also a member of the Jamestown Society in Williamsburg.
Tommy was the first son of Thomas Wesley Parson III “T Jr” and his wife Virginia Parson Parson of Jarratt. His paternal grandparents were Thomas Wesley Parson II “Wesley” and Lucy Brown Parson, and his maternal grandparents were George Lee Parson and Virginia Fraher Parson.
Tommy was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Andrew Lee Parson. He is survived by his brother George Lee Parson and wife Nancy, nephew Thomas Wesley Parson V, and niece Virginia Drummond Parson, all of Atlanta, Georgia.
A graveside service will be held at High Hills Cemetery in Jarratt at 11 a.m. on Monday, October 9, 2023, with Lay Pastor Chuck Lifsey and the Rev. James W. Browder III presiding, followed immediately by a reception at Centenary United Methodist Church in Jarratt, to which all are welcome.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Centenary United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 472, Jarratt VA 23867 or the Jamestown Society, 3901 Midlands Road, Williamsburg VA 23188. Owen Funeral Home in Jarratt is handling the arrangements.
