Sharon (Jarratt) Felton Story, 53, of Yale, Virginia, died at her home 4 months after being diagnosed with brain cancer. She was born on June 14, 1966 in Sussex County, VA, to Rev. JB and Mary Anne (Bobbitt) Jarrett, both deceased.
Sharon grew up in Jarratt, graduating from Sussex County High School in 1984. She attended Richard Bland College, Petersburg, VA, and earned an Associate Degree. On May 17, 1987, she married Thomas Felton who was a Sussex County (VA) Patrol Deputy. Deputy Felton was killed in the line of duty on April 29, 1989, at the age of 23. On December 31, 1997, she became the wife of Wayne Story, and years later became the mother of now 11-year-old Jessie Story.
Sharon is survived by husband, Wayne; daughter, Jessie; and brother, James Michael Jarratt, of the home. Sharon’s step-children are Avery Story (Samantha) of Thomasville, AL; and Olivia Story. Other family members include brother, Lennie Jarrett (Lisa), Lake Villa, IL; sister, Paige Casper, Branchville, VA; nieces, Anna VanCleave (Jeffrey), Voorhees, NJ; Faith Lusch (Matthew), Chicago, IL; and nephew, Robby Casper, Jr., Branchville, VA. Mrs. Elaine Felton Lane, of Jarratt, was loved by Sharon who considered Elaine her “second mother”. Other beloved family members are Michael Felton (Samantha) of Prince George, VA, and Warren Lane of Jarrett. Sharon is also survived by many relatives, friends, and hundreds of law enforcement survivors across the United States.
Because of Tom Felton’s line-of-duty death, Sharon joined a national support group for law enforcement surviving families in 1990 and became the National President of Concerns of Police Survivors (1996-1998). She was a founder of the Virginia Chapter of C.O.P.S. and served a 2-year term on the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Board in Washington, DC. She was a national trainer for C.O.P.S., delivered memorable speeches at numerous law enforcement events and trainings, and loved to write poetry.
Sharon would often be seen at the High Hills Baptist Church with Jessie, she sang with the “Highway to Heaven” group, and she openly professed her love for God and his Son, Jesus. Her everyday efforts were focused on professing her faith to others.
