Samuel A. Owen, Jr.

Samuel Aurelius Owen, Jr., 68, of North Chesterfield, Virginia, was called home to be with his Lord, the King of Heaven and Earth, on Tuesday morning, November 10, 2020.

Sam was born in Richmond, the son of the late Sam A. Owen and Martha Harding Owen and grew up in Jarratt, Virginia. He married Patricia Steve in 1979 and they have seven children, Sarah, Craig, Jennifer, Luke, Karen, Zachary and Emily, as well as 12 grandchildren. He is also survived by his father’s wife, Debbie, brother, Ed Harrell, sisters, Mason Wells and Julie Thompson.

Sam graduated from Duke in 1974, served on staff with Campus Crusade for Christ for 21 years, earned two masters degrees from Western Conservative Baptist Seminary, taught on the faculty of Nairobi International School of Theology in Kenya for 8 years, before being called to pastor Grace Reformed Baptist Church in Branford, CT for 16 years. He stepped down from his active ministry in 2013 due to early onset Alzheimer’s but continued to glorify God by submitting to God’s course marked out for him. His family and friends had the privilege to enjoy, love and care for him until summoned home.

The funeral service will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, November 14 at Owen Funeral Home, 303 S. Halifax Rd, Jarratt, Virginia 23867. Interment will follow at Owen Family Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to your own church ministries.
