Robert W. "Bobby" Edwards, Jr.

Robert W. Edwards, Jr. “Bobby”, 71, of Emporia, died suddenly on Thursday, January 23, 2025. He was born January 9, 1954 in Roanoke Rapids, NC to Robert W. Edwards, Sr. and Peggy Ferguson Edwards.

Bobby graduated from Greensville County High School in 1974 and married the love of his life, Brenda Shaw on June 22, 1975. Bobby began his career with the Virgina State Highway Department where he worked until his retirement. He continued for 10 more years working for Mancon, LLC.

Bobby was a lifelong member of Adams Grove Baptist Church. He loved the Lord and served his church as a beloved Sunday School Teacher. He was an ordained deacon, served on many committees and sang in the choir. Bobby enjoyed writing the annual Christmas pageant. He also loved acting himself. He was a cast member in several theatrical performances at the Lakeland Theater.

After retirement, Bobby became a “Pop-Pop” to Lee and Jessi Mae. He loved playing and being with them. Bobby also enjoyed “treasure hunting” at local yard sales and running a small shop from home. He loved his tractor collection and was an avid fan of Dale Earnhardt. Bobby also loved Christmas. He enjoyed decorating the yard and inside with their many collectibles.

Bobby is survived by his wife of 49 years, Brenda Edwards; daughter Norah Haley and son-in-law, Wade; two grandchildren, Lee and Jessi Mae Haley. He is also survived by his father, Robert W. Edwards, Sr.; three brothers, Kenny Edwards (Barbara), Barry Edwards, Doug Edwards (Kim). Also a number of aunts, uncles, and treasured cousins.

The funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday, January 28 Owen Funeral Home, 303 S. Halifax Rd, Jarratt, Virginia. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 12:30 – 2. Interment will follow at Adams Grove Baptist Church Cemetery.
