Lynwood Matthews

Mr. Lynwood Matthews, 67, of Emporia, passed away Monday, October 2, 2023, surrounded by his loving family. He was the son of the late June & Becky Matthews.

Lynwood is survived by his wife, Judy; son, John and his wife, Jessica; grandchildren, Cole and Kamryn; brother, James and his wife, Suzanne and he is also survived by many other extended family members and numerous friends.

Lynwood enjoyed his work in taking care of the highways. Nobody knew I-95 like he did. His career exemplified his true character trait of taking care of others; he cleared the highway in the same way he took care of others in his everyday life. Lynwood was a kind -hearted person who was always willing to lend a helping hand. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, racing and his family; especially his grandchildren.

The family invites you to honor Lynwood’s memory by joining his family for visitation 6-8 p.m. Thursday, October 5 at Owen Funeral Home, 303 S. Halifax Rd, Jarratt, Virginia and at the funeral service which is 2 p.m. Friday, October 6 also at the funeral home.

Interment will be private.
