Lila Lee Turner, passed away peacefully in her home on July 2nd, 2022. She was 96 years old. Lila Lee was well-loved in the small town of Emporia, VA. She was a devoted friend of God, wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was greeted in heaven by her beloved husband, Tom Turner, her son, Tommy Turner, her daughter, Susan Turner Stone, her grandson, Chuck Kasper, and many more loved ones.
Lila Lee is survived by her son, Russell Turner. She was a beloved granny to five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Spending most of her life in the low grounds of Emporia, she was “grandma” to many.
Lila Lee was the unofficial historian of the low grounds. A keen memory and sense of humor until the very end, she loved to discover family connections even with strangers. She was a devoted housekeeper and gardener, as was her mother before her, Hattie Ligon. She also followed in Hattie’s footsteps as a long-time pianist at St. Andrews Methodist Church (and current member of Grace Church).
The family would like to thank her caretakers Mary Frazier, Darryl McCown, and Dorethea Carrington. Thanks to their help Lila Lee was able to pass away peacefully in her home on the family farm she grew up on. We also want to thank Richard Smith, who in addition to maintaining her property was a longtime friend and caretaker.
There will be a small private service for immediate family only. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Tablespoons Bakery. Tablespoons is a non-profit organization lead by her granddaughter, Kelsey Turner, that provides vocational education and employment to young adults with developmental disabilities. www.tablespoonsbakery.org
