Joyce Allen Majer

Joyce Allen Majer, 83, of Emporia, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 24, 2024 with her family by her side.

Joyce was preceded in death by her son, Mike Gay; her granddaughter, Brandy Moss; her parents, Frank and Lucy Allen; two brothers, Frank Allen, Jr. and Eddie Allen and four sisters, Peggy Myrick, Alice Moore, Eleanor Stone and Lois Taylor.

Joyce entered the LPN nursing school at Greensville Memorial Hospital in 1978. She became a compassionate, caring nurse for 28 years, until her retirement in 2007.

She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church for 45 years, where she taught Sunbeam Classes for children and was a children’s Sunday School teacher. Her love for children was expressed in her dedication to this endeavor.

Joyce is survived by her husband of 37 years, Robert “Bob” Majer; a daughter, Pam Moss (Paul); 3 grandsons, Brent Moss (Rebekah), Tray Gay, and Matthew Gay; 4 great-granddaughters, Addyson Moss, Blair Moss, Maddie Gay and Cora Moss; three sisters, Margaret Watson, Martha Harris and Jeannette McArdle and numerous nieces and nephews whom she loved like her own.

The funeral service will be held graveside 10 a.m. Saturday, October 26 at Emporia Cemetery (Brunswick Avenue) led by Pastor Ken Arrington.

The family will receive friends after lunch at the home of her daughter, 3510 Slagle’s Lake Rd.
