John Robert Wilson, Sr.

John Robert “Bobby” Wilson, Sr, 83, of Emporia, Virginia, went to his heavenly home on Saturday, February 18, 2023. He was the son of Benjamin Franklin Wilson and Virginia Goldsborough Newsome Wilson.

He is survived by his daughter, Pamela Wilson Aerni (Paul), his daughter-in-law, Sandra (Sandy) Sykes Wilson, and his four grandchildren, Adam Aerni (Rachel), Ryan Aerni (Amber), John (Trey) Robert Wilson III (Katie), and Laura Wilson. John (PaPa) adored his great-granddaughter, Kimber Aerni, and great-grandson, Danny McDonald. His nieces, Donna Conner (Clarence), Connie Wilson, Wanda Wilson, Joan Sasser (Tony), and Debbie Pearce (Randy), hold a special place in his heart.

John is preceded in death by his wife, Rosa Lorrell Merricks Wilson, his son, John Robert Wilson, Jr., his brothers, B. F. Wilson, Lawrence Wilson, Richard Wilson, and his sisters, Rose Starke and June Morrison.

John was a charter member of the Greensville County Rescue Squad. He was a lifelong member of Purdy Baptist Church. John (Papa and Big Bobby) will be dearly missed by his family and friends.

A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, February 22, 2023, 2 p.m. at the Emporia Cemetery on Brunswick Ave., Emporia, VA.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the Greensville County Rescue Squad.
