Irene E. Jarratt, 81, of Yale, passed away Monday, September 24, 2018. She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter R. Jarratt; daughter, Pamela S. Jarratt; brother, Howard Edwards and sister, Nell Mclaughlin. She was also preceded in death by sisters-in-law, Gladys Barnes and Margaret Poole and brothers-in-law, Richard Jarratt, Tom Jarratt, William “Jo-Boy” Jarratt and Mel Jarratt.
Following the death of her husband’s parents, she became the matriarch of the Jarratt family. She and Walter kept the young Jarratt family intact as they continued their family farming operation. After her husband’s death, she worked as a dispatcher with the Sussex County Sheriff’s Office until her retirement due to health issues.
Irene is survived by her son, Kenny Jarratt (Patti); three grandchildren, Jonathan Q. Jarratt (Shontae), Ashley J. Protzman (Sean) and Jessica D. Harrison (Brian); six great-grandchildren, Olivia Protzman, Sydney Jarratt, Paige Protzman, Audrey Jarratt, Brooklyn Harrison and Rowan Jarratt; two sisters, Ethel Hayes (A. W.), and Frances Evenson; and brother, Scott Edwards (Clarice); sisters-in-law, Carol Jarratt, Etta Mae Jarratt and Dorothy Jarratt Baylor; brothers-in-law, Lawrence “Bubba” Jarratt, David Jarratt, Joe Poole and Paul Barnes; special family members, niece, Deste Cox and nephew, Benji Jarratt (Hope) and special friends and caregivers, Robbie Francis and Tommy Wyatt and numerous nieces and nephews.
The funeral service will be held 12 noon on Thursday, September 27 at Owen Funeral Home, 303 S. Halifax Rd, Jarratt, Virginia where the family will receive friends 10:30 a.m. until 12. Interment will follow at Readville Baptist Church Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to Readville Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, 11093 Dove Lane, Stony Creek, Virginia 23882.
