Everette Martin Powell, 74, passed away Friday, December 16, 2022. He was son of the late Everette and Dorothy Powell and was also preceded in death by a brother, Clarence Powell and wife, Ruby.
Everette attended Alberta Elementary School until he left school to take care of his family. He worked at Abell Lumber Company and then drove a taxi cab locally for Community Cab, Midway Cab and Halifax Cab until his health led to his retirement. Everette put forth volumes of dedicated effort in taking his customer’s needs during their trips with him in his taxi cab. He was fondly known to most of them as “Powell”.
The simplest pleasures in life brought great joy to Everette. He loved a quiet evening with family watching either his Dallas Cowboys play football or his wrestling along with his infamous meatloaf dinner. There was never a dull moment spent with Everette as he was a great joker.
Mr. Powell is survived by his children, Doreen Powell, Everette Powell (Carleen), Robert Powell, Anna Powell, Helen Powell and Sherry Powell; fifteen grandchildren; two great-granddaughters and a great-grandson; his favorite aunt, Lula Powell and numerous cousins.
A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Friday, February 24 at Owen Funeral Home, 303 S. Halifax Rd., Jarratt, Virginia where the family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
