Evelyn West Daniel

Evelyn West Daniel, 87, devoted wife and mother, departed from this world on December 19, 2024.  She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Arthur Clay Daniel; her parents, Samuel Marsh West and Rosa Estelle West of Carson, Virgina; her stepmother Annie B. West; sisters, Esma Irving, Nan Kunze and brothers Marsh West, Thurman West, and Grayson West. Evelyn is survived by her daughter, Sheila Daniel; and three sons, Arthur (“Artie”) Daniel, Jr.; David Daniel and Stephen Daniel; three grandchildren, Lisa Gillam (Stephen), Dana Gill (Dustin), and Ashley Vick (Michael); and seven great-grandchildren, Nicholas and Addison Gilliam, Hayley and Taylor Gill, David Stevens, Kelsey Elmore, and Claire Elmore.

Evelyn was the youngest of six children born to Sam West and Estelle West in Carson, Virginia.  At age nine, she went to Richmond to live with her sister Nan after her mother passed away. Evelyn later returned to Carson after her father married Annie B. West at age 11.  In 1954, she married the love of her life, Arthur Clay Daniel, from McKenney, Virginia. The couple subsequently raised a daughter and three sons at Arthur’s home place in southern Dinwiddie County.  She and Arthur lived at the Daniel homeplace for 66 years.  Shortly after Arthur’s passing in 2020, she moved to Charlotte, North Carolina, to live with her daughter, Sheila, due to her declining health.  Although her family, friends, and community are happy that she is now in heaven with her beloved Arthur Clay, they have lost a treasured individual who will be deeply missed.

A Memorial Service will be held at Concord United Methodist Church at 12:00 noon on Saturday, December 28, 2024. Following her interment at the Concord United Methodist Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be held in the church social hall. The Memorial Service will also be available livestream by video on the Concord United Methodist Church facebook page.
