Betty Moore Gregory, 87, of Jarratt, Virginia went to meet her Lord and Savior on Monday, February 12, 2024.
She has been reunited with her husband of 66 years, Charles I. “Billy” Gregory, Sr. She was also preceded in death by her parents, Johnnie A. Moore and Elizabeth W. Moore; seven sisters, Lila, Carrie, Willar, Martha, Edna, Dorothy and Shirley and brothers, Randolph and Johnny Leroy.
Mrs. Gregory is survived by her children, Donna K. Gregory, Tammy Gregory Kidd (Garry), and Charles I. “Chuck” Gregory, Jr.(Kim); five grandchildren, Stacy Hardester (Andrew), Mark Ferguson (Amanda), Sammantha Thomas (Dustin), Charles I. Gregory, III (Kaitlin) and Claire Rhinehart (Garrett); two step-grandchildren Megan Deal (John) and Lori Kidd; four great-grandchildren, Katie and Darby Hardester and Easton and Gunner Thomas; five step-great-grandchildren, Eli Thomas, Ari, Knox, and Everlie Deal and Tyler Thompson as well as many nieces and nephews.
Betty was a longtime member of High Hills Baptist Church, however, she returned to her home church at Main Street Baptist Church where she was a deacon. Betty was happiest when working with children and music. She directed the children’s choir at High Hills Baptist Church and Main Street Baptist Church for a total of 54 years.
Betty was Girl Scout Leader and had a special talent for organizing and directing people and programs. She was the director of the Young at Heart for 10 years.
She organized, built props, recorded music and directed the “Living Nativity” production at High Hills Baptist Church where everyone was included and participated in the production.
Betty initiated and placed a marker at the Virginia National Guard Armory in Emporia, Virginia commemorating the soldiers from Company M, Emporia Unit, 29th Division.
She also organized a program and parade for the 50th Anniversary of D-Day in honor of Company M, Emporia Unit, 29th Division.
The family would like to thank Hospice of Virginia, especially RN Anne Matthews and Americare Plus for their devoted caregivers.
A special thank you to the Main Street Baptist Church family and members of James Square Baptist Church for their support.
A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, February 17, 2024 at Main Street Baptist Church where the family will receive friends one and one half hour prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to Main Street Baptist Church, 440 South Main St, Emporia, Virginia 23847 or High Hills Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, P.O. Box 296, Jarratt, Virginia 23867.
