Sarah Frances Flowers Pennington

Sarah Frances Flowers Pennington of Roseville Farm, Yale, Virginia passed away on September 30, 2016 with family by her side. Preceded in death by her husband, Edward Thomas Pennington, she was the daughter of the late Otelia Beatrice (Delia) Wachsmann and William Oscar Flowers. She is survived by five daughters, Anne P. Crow (Bob) of Charlottesville, Mary P. – Frankie - Fuller (Hugh) of Prince George, Jean P. Mattox (Gil) of Courtland, Sara P. King of Raleigh and Sylvia P. Groves of Lawrenceville; ten grandchildren and twenty-four great grandchildren. She is survived by three sisters, Elizabeth Phillips, Dorothy Wornom (Boyce) and Jean Grubbs (John) and nine nieces and nephews.
Sarah was a lifetime member of Antioch Baptist Church where she served as a Sunday School teacher for 70 years, Sunday School Director and Secretary, Vacation Bible School Director, Historian and Deacon. Her dedication to local, state and world missions, led to many years of service as the WMU Leader of Antioch Baptist Church and WMU Director of the Petersburg Baptist Association. She was a member of the Sussex County Historical Society and Miles Carpenter Museum. She was a resource person for Sussex County history and genealogy and wrote the history of Antioch Baptist Church. She was noted for her welcoming spirit to new members of the community and church. Her passion was caring for the elderly and shut-ins – members of the family and community. She was a dedicated bookkeeper for Magee Corporation for many years.
A celebration of her life will be held at 2:00 PM on Sunday, October 2, 2016 at Antioch Baptist Church, Yale, Virginia. The family will receive friends in the fellowship hall following the service. In lieu of flowers, you may honor Sarah's life with contributions to Camp Kehukee, c/o Mr. Hugh Mumford, Petersburg Baptist Association, P.O.
