JARRATT, Helen Page Scarborough, 88, passed away on Monday, July 27, 2015. Helen grew up in Carson, VA and graduated from Carson High School. After receiving a degree in home economics from Madison College (now James Madison University) in 1947, she taught at Stony Creek and Petersburg High Schools. A life-long member of the United Methodist Church, Helen sang soprano in many church choirs and most recently was a member of Reveille United Methodist Church in Richmond. For almost two decades, she volunteered at Chippenham Hospital, donating thousands of hours of service to help patients and their families. Affectionally known as “Nanny,” Helen devoted her caring spirit and energy to her family, grandchildren and community. Every person she met was significant, and her genuine warmth has left behind many a friend.
Helen was preceded in death by her parents, Gordon M. and Essie H. Scarborough, of Carson, and her sister, Roslyn S. Hauser, and her husband, Paul, of Burke, VA. She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Frederick R. Jarratt; sons Gordon S. Jarratt and his wife, Carolyn, and Benjamin F. Jarratt II and his wife, Mary; daughter, Helen Sue Jarratt Agee and her husband, Charles; grandsons Marshall B. Agee and his wife, Caroline, Tyler J. Agee and his wife, Lauren, Colin J. Jarratt, and Patrick B. Quinn; and granddaughters Jessica H. Jarratt, Brigid M. Quinn, and Caitlin E. Quinn.
The Jarratt Family will receive family and friends 4:30-7:30 p.m. on Friday, July 31, 2015, at Willow Oaks Country Club, 6228 Forest Hill Avenue, Richmond, VA. A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 1, 2015 at Carson United Methodist Church, 17407 Halligan Park Rd., Carson, VA; a graveside service will immediately follow at the Jarratt Family Cemetery in Jarratt, VA.
