Robert Sydney "Syd" Slade, Jr.

Mr. Robert Sydney “Syd” Slade, Jr., 59, died Tuesday, May 19, 2015 ay his home near Stony Creek. A native of Sussex County, he was a graduate of Tidewater Academy and Virginia Tech. He had worked as a farmer and a merchant. Syd enjoyed hunting, fishing, and sharing good times with his friends. He was a member of Sharon United Methodist Church, Sussex Co. Historical Society, and a past member of Sussex Community Hunt Club. He was predeceased by his parents, Robert Sydney Slade and Mary Peebles Slade. Syd is survived by his sister, Bess Richardson and husband, Bill of Dendron, niece, Mary Anna Richardson of Dendron, and nephew, Paul Richardson of Charlottesville. A memorial service will be held 3 p.m. Saturday, May 23, 2015 at Sharon United Methodist Church, Yale, Virginia where a reception will be held following the service.
