Agnes P. Hudson

Agnes P. Hudson of Stony Creek passed away Thursday, April 16, 2015 at Ivy Ridge Assisted Living Center in Petersburg. She was born March 10, 1922 in Mecklenburg County to Foxhall and Annie May Poythress. Seven of her eight siblings predeceased her as did her husband, Walter L. “Buck” Hudson. She leaves to share many memories, her children, Helen H. Benford (Ben) of Montgomery, AL, Joyce H. Starr (Richard) of Lincoln, NE, and Dannie L. Hudson (Nita) of Carson, Virginia; her grandchildren, Kelly Hudson Beeken (Matt), Jason Hudson (Austin), Catherine Starr Habel (Nathan), Melissa Starr and Theresa Starr; her great-grandchildren, Anna and Hudson Beeken, Sydney and Tucker Hudson, and Abby, Mia, Davina and Alyssa Habel. Other survivors include her sister, Ella Mae Kidd, sister-in-law, Bernice Poythress, beloved nieces and nephews, great nieces and great-nephews and other extended family. Her many friends and community acquaintances were greatly treasured. She enjoyed the new friendships with residents and staff at Ivy Ridge. She also deeply appreciated the dedicated caregivers who provided loving attention in her final months. Agnes was a devoted and wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, GG, and friend. She was a 67 year member of Fort Grove United Methodist Church and active in programs such as United Methodist Women, Helping Hands and Bible Study. She retired in 1990 as a postal clerk at Stony Creek Post office where she enjoyed interacting with co-workers and customers. In her retirement, she continued her extensive involvement in family, community and church activities. Visitation will be held 6-8 p.m. Friday, April 17 at Owen Funeral Home, 303 S. Halifax Rd, Jarratt, Virginia. The funeral service will be conducted 2 p.m. Saturday, April 18 at Fort Grove United Methodist Church in Stony Creek with interment to follow at Southlawn Memorial Park in Petersburg. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Fort Grove United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 145, Stony Creek, Virginia 23882 or to Hospice of Virginia, 1700 Bayberry Ct, Richmond, Virginia 23226 and will be greatly appreciated.
