Richard R. Jarratt, Sr.

Richard R. Jarratt, Sr., 69, of Emporia, passed away Tuesday, October 28, 2014. He was the son of the late Paul and Mary Ella Jarratt and was also preceded in death by two brothers, William E. Jarratt and James T. “Tommy” Jarratt. Survivors include his daughter, April Lynn Brannan and husband, Lester; son, Richard R. “Buck” Jarratt and wife, Cindy; three grandchildren, Brian Simmons, Nicole Brannan and Miranda E. Jarratt and a great-grandson, Grant Simmons. He also is survived by his devoted companion, Lilah Jarratt and her children, Joshua Jarratt and Samantha Grizzard and husband, Brandon and children, Jaylon and Cameron Grizzard. Richard also leaves behind a brother, Charles “C. D.” Jarratt and wife, Anita; three sisters, Alice Turner and husband, Don, Frances Murr and husband, Freeman and June Faison and husband, Glenn and a number of nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends 6-8 p.m. Thursday, Oct 30 at Owen Funeral Home, 303 S. Halifax Rd, Jarratt, Virginia where the funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Friday, October 31. Interment will follow at Adams Grove Baptist Church Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please consider memorial contributions to assist the family with final expenses.
