Kathleen B. Barnes

September 17, 1919 — February 3, 2013

Kathleen B. Barnes, 93, the widow of Broaddus W. Barnes, passed away in her home on Sunday, February 3, 2013. The daughter of the late Hinton and Elnora Bolster Barnes, Kathleen was a beautiful soul who touched many lives and her sweet spirit will never be forgotten. She is survived by her children, David Wilson Barnes and wife, Jean, Carol B. Woodruff Jones and husband, Donnie, Francis W. Barnes and wife, Carol and Charles E. “Chuck” Barnes and wife, Peggie; her grandchildren, Billy Woodruff and wife, Vickie, Duane Woodruff, Tracy Nicholson and husband, James, Kim Repak and husband, Andy, Jim Barnes, Russ Barnes and wife, Amy and Jason Barnes and fiancee’, Lindsay; step-grandson, Buck Jones and fiancee’ Rhonda; great-granddaughters, Jenny and Taylor Woodruff and Caroline Nicholson; her brother, David Barnes; her sisters, Adele Morgan (Gill) and Ann Clay, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her sister, Louise Barnes. Kathleen was dedicated to her Lord and was a lifelong member of Concord United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday School, sang in the choir and was past president of the UMW. She was a dedicated farmer’s wife who lovingly cared for many family members in her home. She was also an avid gardener and an accomplished seamstress. The family wishes to express their deep appreciation and gratitude to her loving and compassionate caregivers: Gertrude Winfield, Marian Johnson, Ann Walker, Ann Barnes, Frizelle Potter and Estelle Goodwyn and to her Hospice nurses, Beth Holloway and Joyce Lynch. The family will receive friends at Mrs. Barnes’ home and Wednesday 6-8 p.m. at Owen Funeral Home, 303 S. Halifax Rd, Jarratt, Virginia 23867. The funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Thursday, February 7 at Concord United Methodist Church with interment to follow in the church cemetery. A reception for all will follow in the church social hall. Memorial contributions may be made to Concord United Methodist Church, c/o Alice Spiers, 25713 Courthouse Rd, Stony Creek, Virginia 23882 or to a favorite charity.
