Peggy Leigh Emory, 63, daughter of the late Rufus and Lucy Emory of Emporia, Virginia died Sunday, December 30, 2012 at her home in Kitty Hawk, NC. She was also preceded in death by a son, Jonathan. Survivors include a daughter, Rhonda Burgess and grandchildren, Celena and Jakob Burgess, a son, travis Webb of Austin, TX and grandchildren, Amanda and Noah of El Paso, TX; four sisters, Christine Pair of Jarratt, VA, Ruth Kreienbaum of Roanoke, VA, Kathy Temple of Chesapeake, VA and Mary Tindall of Lakeland, FL; niece, Karen Clevinger of Virginia Beach, VA and nephews, Jeff Pair of Chattonooga, TN, Brian Tindall of Elwood, IL and David Tindall of Valparaiso, IN; great nieces and nephews, Kelsey Clevinger, Tara, Tina, Cody and Cole Tindall. Peggy graduated from James Madison University and pursued a career in Home Economics. For many years, she was an extension agent for Greensville County, where she was a friend and mentor to many. She retired to Kitty Hawk, NC, where for the past eight years, she was involved with many volunteer activities and served as Director of Activities for Spring Arbor Assisted Living. Family and friends will meet at Owen Funeral Home, 303 S. Halifax Rd, Jarratt, Virginia 6-8 p.m. Thursday evening, January 3, 2013, to share our love for Peggy, and stories of her wonderful life. A celebration of life service will be led by Pastor Tony Facenda, of Still Waters Independent Baptist Church, Kill Devil Hill, NC at Owen Funeral Home, Jarratt, Virginia 1 p.m. on Friday, January 4, 2013. Peggy requested to her family that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to St. Jude Childrens Research Hospital, Tribute Program, Acct # 32505733, P.O. Box 1000, Memphis, TN, 38148 or to the SPCA of Dare County, NC, P.O. Box 1000, Manteo, NC 27954.
