Roy Clifton Crowder, 88, passed away on Thursday, October 11, 2012. A retired employee of Johns-Manville Corporation (now Georgia-Pacific) and a World War II Veteran, he was born in Avis, Virginia (Ebony) on June 24, 1924. He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas W. & Nettie Gray Crowder, two brothers, Richard T. Crowder and Lonnie N. Crowder and six sisters, Annie Jones, Minnie Moseley, Alva Pulley, Daisy Barnes, Eunice Pulley and Virginia Harris. Left to treasure his memory are three nieces who were raised like his sisters, Frances Arrington, Ethel Davis and Rodessa Clary as well as numerous other nieces and nephews. He devoted his life to his family and loved cats. A funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Sunday, October 14, 2012 at Owen Funeral Home, 303 S. Halifax Rd, Jarratt, Virginia 23867. Interment will follow at Prospect United Methodist Church Cemetery in Ebony, Virginia. Memorial contributions may be made to Prospect United Methodist Church, 1974 Ebony Rd, Ebony, Virginia 23845. The family will receive friends at the funeral home 1 – 2 p.m. prior to the service.
