Doris K. Harrison

Doris Kathleen Harrison, 70, of Jarratt, passed away on Tuesday, July 10, 2012. Survivors include two brothers, W. T. “Tommy” Harrison and wife, Betty Cooke and J. Aubrey Harrison and wife, Judy; nieces and nephews, Nicole Coker and husband, Aubrey, Brian Harrison and wife, Melissa, Chris Harrison and wife, Sue and Kaye Dawn Newsome and husband, Russell; six great-nieces and nephews, Madilyn, Colby, Logan, Dalton, Josh and Chandler and three cousins, Jane, Cary and Gary. Miss Harrison was a 1960 graduate of Jarratt High School, a 1964 graduate of Longwood College and later earned her Master’s Degree from VCU in Administration and Supervision. Her career in teaching was spent primarily at Greensville County High School, retiring as assistant principal, where she also coached girls’ basketball and softball leading teams in both sports to championships. She was a member of Lebanon United Methodist Church in Jarratt where she had served as Sunday School Teacher. Doris was the daughter of the late Walter T. and Kathleen Sanford Harrison and dearly loved her younger brothers and their families. Her love and devotion as sister, aunt, and teacher was a source of strength for her family and many friends. The family will be gathering at Doris’ home on Halifax Rd and will receive friends 5-8 p.m. Wednesday at Owen Funeral Home, 303 S. Halifax Rd in Jarratt where the funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, July 12, 2012. Interment will follow at High Hills Cemetery.
