Frank Spence

Frank Spence, 89, widower of Nellie Spence, passed away Tuesday, April 17, 2012. He was also preceded in death by a sister Aliease Tuton and a grandson Aaron Spence. He is survived by two sons; Shelby Spence and wife Rita of Roanoke Rapids N.C. and Melvin Spence of Emporia, two daughters; Jewel King and husband Lester of Emporia and Joyce Copeland and husband Bob of Forest, Va. He was blessed with ten grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren.
Mr. Spence was a veteran of WWII and awarded several medals, including the Bronze Star. He retired from Southampton Correctional Center and spent his retirement in Drewryville with his wife. He served in his church as a deacon and Sunday school teacher for many years.
The family will receive visitors at the Owen Funeral Home in Jarratt on Friday, April 20, 2012 from 6:00 until 8:00 pm.
Funeral Services will be Saturday April 21, 2012 at 2:00 pm with interment at Drewryville Cemetery.
