James R. “Jimmy” Thompson, 62, of Emporia, died Thursday, March 8, 2012. He was preceded in death by his father, Calvin Thompson and a son, Ronald Bruce Thompson. Survivors include his wife of 39 years, Linda Braswell Thompson; three daughters, Stacy Thompson (Juan), Becky Parham (Lawrence) and Jamie Taylor (Clay); five grandchildren, Amber Thompson (Blake), Candice Parham, Zachary Parham, Carrie Long and Colton Taylor; one great-granddaughter, Kaydence Schlosser; his mother, Mabel Williams Thompson; his brother, William “Bug” Thompson (Dianne); special sisters, Melinda Green and Melanie Wilson and aunts, uncles, cousins and nieces and nephews. Mr. Thompson was a dedicated employee of Parker Oil Company where he was service and sales manager and was a life-long active member of Aberdour Presbyterian Church serving many years on session and had served as clerk. He was also active in the community as member of the Emporia-Greensville Chamber of Commerce and worked with the Virginia Peanut Festival and the Virginia Pork Festival and also had been very active in years past with the Emporia-Greensville Recreation Association. The family will receive friends 6-8 p.m. Saturday at Owen Funeral Home, 303 S. Halifax Rd in Jarratt where the funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Sunday, March 11, 2012. Interment will follow at Aberdour Presbyterian Church Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to Aberdour Presbyterian Church, 702 Allen Rd., Jarratt, Virginia 23867.
